I’m here talking to you today AGAIN about possibly my favorite marketing topic to geek out on, and that’s e-mail marketing. I started learning about e-mail marketing back in 2012ish when I helped local businesses leverage this marketing strategy. They always had the same common questions coming up. How do I get people on my “list”? Why would people want to be on my list? What do I say to them once they’re on the list? How do I make sure I’m not SPAMMY?!

Small businesses care a lot about being genuine. They don’t want to be lumped in with big businesses who seem to constantly be throwing SALES at us without any value or connection in between. Small businesses want to nurture relationships with their perfect audience, and they want to have conversations with them. They want those genuine interactions, the feedback loop, they want to actually serve them what they need.

Of course, if you’ve listened to this podcast you know I consider teachers with an online business to share those same “small business” values, and that’s part of what I hope to bring to this space. I want to help teachers maintain that same hometown feel that the local businesses I’ve worked with were hoping to bring to the online space. We want to show up and help our audience in real, meaningful ways.

The first place small businesses always started their online marketing journey in 2012 was with e-mail. It was the simplest way to connect with customers on a meaningful level- to serve them in this way where it didn’t feel like they were shouting at them, but it felt like a personalized message between friends.

And I’ve found that teachers often want to start there too, but they aren’t sure when to start, what to say, or how it fits in their overall marketing strategy.

E-mail is a revolving door. It takes consistent energy. In fact, the amount of energy a business owner puts into building their e-mail list is reflected in the energy of that list. If you ghost your list and stop showing up, they will likely stop opening your emails.

On the other hand, we know it can grow our business tremendously. People have told us the statistics. That the return on investment for e-mail is $44 for every $1 spent. That email drives more sales than Facebook and Twitter combined. That IT WORKS to help make repeat sales.

So where does it fit in in your marketing plan? Email marketing is jogging alongside your solid marketing strategy. It’s always there, hyping up whatever other content you’re putting out into the world. Email marketing is your hype man! He helps to bring together all the loose ends of your marketing strategy and give your message to your perfect audience all wrapped up in a nice little bow.

So I decided this hype man deserved his own show! I’m going to answer a bunch of questions about e-mail marketing in this podcast, and if at the end you decide this is something you want to tackle and implement in your business- sign up to join Engage with Email course while you can get in on the beta pricing! www.alissamcdonald.com/email
