Who wants to talk MONEY?!

With all that’s going on in the world, in the economy- this time is terrifying for most people with a business, and for everyone in general! With worry about losing jobs and losing income at an all-time high, we need a cushion.

Now more than ever, we need to make sure we’re diversifying our income so that we have multiple streams of income coming in. Online businesses, thankfully, are still thriving.

Thousands and thousands of teachers were thrown into this enormous task of continuing education for children who are dealing with a crisis. They were given the seemingly impossible task of staying connected with kids, and they accepted that task wholeheartedly. We are still learning to show up for our students in this new way. We’re adjusting our expectations for this school year, and we are learning that we can do hard things.

All that to say that being online- starting an online business- may have seemed like a hard thing to us once. But I would be willing to bet now that we’ve somewhat tackled this whole online learning thing….starting an online business doesn’t seem quite as scary.

We know that in the face of uncertainty, self-doubt and difficulty, we can persevere.

I asked my Teacher Hustle Podcast Facebook group what they thought the secret to having a successful business online was.

Here’s what they said:

Persistence, willingness to transform, patience, momentum, desire, systems, consistency, passion, hustle and grit, connection.

Isn’t that what you’ve had to show up with during this transition to online learning? Isn’t that the same toolkit you used to maintain learning for your students during a pandemic?

Persistence, willingness to transform, patience, momentum, desire, systems, consistency, passion, hustle and grit, connection.

It’s the same. It’s that TEACHER HUSTLE. It’s that special sort of passion meets persistence that teachers innately have.

Those are the same qualities you need to start and run a successful online business.

And the amazing thing about having an online business is that it can also give us the income we need to get through some of these difficult times. It will keep money flowing through our economy, and it will give us the creative outlet we so need without having being surrounded by our physical classrooms and coworkers.

It can provide us with a creative outlet, a community, and gives us the opportunity to impact classrooms around the world.

There are a million ways you can make money online, but I am most excited about the ones where teachers serve other teachers. Because we each have something unique and special to offer to this space, and there’s plenty of opportunity to help one another.

With a little bit of persistence, that special teacher hustle, and the passion to make it work, you can start bringing in income from more than one source to help give yourself a cushion during this difficult time.

Remember, you don’t have to tackle a new business during this time- you can keep Netflixin’ and simply getting through the days- I won’t blame you one bit. But when you’re ready to take on the world...because you will be….come back to this episode.
