3 steps you can take today to set yourself up for a balanced week

It’s been a whirlwind month...March felt like FOREVER! Many of us were figuring out how to teach our students online, how to manage our own routines at home, and how to keep our online businesses running! Let’s face it...we’re still figuring this out, right?

I actually don’t know what week we’re on or even what day it is, and I honestly am still going back and forth between feeling a need for rest, feeling a need for routine, and feeling a need for peace and acceptance. So this week, I wish you BALANCE.

And I know this is where I step in. Before today, my job was to LISTEN to you, to help where I could, and to figure out how I could help. Now that I’m feeling the energy shift to this place where I believe many of you are ready to find that balance again, I’m going to give you 3 bite-sized things to do TODAY to set yourself up for a balanced week.

If you have a notebook handy- we can go through this process together & you can pause and do some writing. This is going to involve some brain dumping and list making. If you’re running or walking or cooking or cleaning while you listen to this, just come back to it later.

I’m going to walk you through the same steps I walk you through whenever I create a schedule, only this time we’re taking into consideration the circumstances we’re in during this time.

As teachers, I think it’s fair to say plans and schedules, routines- they are a familiar face to us. They give us that structure and control we crave. They allow us to say NO and to set the boundaries that we desperately need. They force us to carve out time for ourselves and to evaluate what’s really important.

Just like the first week of school, maybe the first few months of school- it takes time to settle into our new normal. Routines and plans need to be tweaked and adjusted, we find out what’s truly important to us and what can be set aside for another day. We learn how to take care of ourselves- because we know we can’t take care of our students and families until we take care of US.

I’m glad to have you here, and we have a totally free community of amazing educators who also listen to this podcast. We chat about all the things over in the free Facebook group called Teacher Hustle Podcast. If you’re not already a part of that community, we’d love to have you!
